It's kind of a shock to me that Ovie is already in Moscow. Just day before yesterday he was in a locker room giving his last interview to the media and saying the he was leaving to Moscow "today". Frankly I thought he kidding as usual. And how he ended up as a honorary guest at Eurovision so quickly? Well, Yuri Luzhkov is a friend of Ovechkin's family. Here's an excerpt from Tatiana Ovechkina's interview to Sport-Express last year:

After this summer in Toronto Alex got a bunch of trophies and Washington D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty arranged a chic reception in honor of Ovechkin. He handed him a symbolic key to the city. I am very happy that Alex is so loved in America.

But I would like to say about another Mayor, [about Mayor of Moscow] Yuri Mikhailovich Luzhkov. Few people are aware that he was helping Alex. I had never told it to the journalists. Our acquaintance with Luzhkov started in 1990s, when he began to support women's basketball Dynamo team where I was the president of the club. There were different situations, but in all matters related to the hockey future of Alex, I was always asking for an advice from Luzhkov. And he'd always give us the correct advice. When in 2004 Alex was chosen as a number one pick, the first person I called was Yuri Mikhailovich. And after Alex signed the contract with Washington I've sent the fax to Luzhkov thanking him on behave of our entire family.

Sweet! Ovie gets the hottest gigs and phatest babes! Why do you never see Sid The Kid in gigs like this or with babes like this?

Answer:

Ovie has cool cars and sweet pads.

Sidney lives in Mario's basement.

One is a grown up the other is "a kid".

I got this translation from HFBoards. The media complained about this and it seems like now even his teammate/close friend feels the same way. Maybe he should take it to heart and start working on it.

"I don't know if anyone posted or saw this but....http://gd.se/sport/ishockey/1.1043868

Quick summary of game 7 and how disappointed Bäckström was, leaving the arena without facing the media.

B: I feel better now, I'm alright. "Bäckis" (his nickname) assures, now one day after the game.

He sounds composed, now that worst disappointment seem to have gone away.

B: They really were alot better than us. Can't do anything about that now.

Reporter: It's easier coping with a loss like this rather than another OT game?

B: That's exactly what we said to eachother in the dressing room afterwards. Losing another close game would've been worse. Truth is we were a bit too content to win a game 7 like this one. It didn't feel like that before the game, but it probably was that way.

Reporter talking about their young and less experienced team.

B: Pittsburgh has some young guys too, but you might be on to something there. We weren't quite ready yet, sais "Bäckis", who's very impressed by the opposition.

B: I think Pittsburgh can win the Stanley Cup. Personally I'd like that now. They are a really good team.

******"Bäckis" also praises Sidney Crosby.

B: Playing like he did against us now, he's the best player.

Reporter: The best you've met?

B: Yeah, Ovechkin is awesome from the red line and forward, but Crosby's awesome all over the rink. ****** We knew how dangerous he is in front of the net, but we couldn't solve him. Maybe it looks like he's lucky alot, but it's about being in the right place you know, and he almost always is."

The mayor of Moscow, he may have helped Ovie, but his position on certain political and social issues are terrible.

One of the things that helped to pass the off-season last year was your translations of the articles like this one. Please keep it up.

It's not Lena Katina, it's Yulya Volkova (they both are from Russian pop-group "TATU" :)
